AMEC Class B Automatic Identification System (AIS)

The Automatic Identification System (AIS) is a system used by ships and Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) principally for identification and locating vessels. The primarily purpose of AIS is collision avoidance. AIS provides a means for ships to automatically exchange data like identification, position, course, and speed, with other nearby ships and VTS stations. This information can be displayed on either ECS or lap-top. AIS is intended to assist the vessel's watch standing officers and allow maritime authorities to track and monitor vessel movements.

The International Maritime Organization's (IMO) International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) requires Class A AIS devices to be fitted aboard international voyaging ships with gross tonnage over 300, and all passenger ships regardless of size. As for non-SOLAS and other recreational vessels, a simple, compact, and cost-effective Class B AIS is recommended. Class B AIS has full compatibilities with Class A AIS and retains the major functions of collision avoidance and improving situation awareness.

AMEC all-in-one Class B AIS, the CAMINO-201, is one of few models with superior specifications. The built-in 5.7” color display with embedded coastal dotted lines enables mariners with the direct and clear AIS information and saves troubles of connecting to other display, and NEMA 0183 offers users with more flexibility to other maritime equipments while necessary. Moreover, both RS-232 and Bluetooth are designed as standard for further software upgrade and connection with lap-tops. Bluetooth wireless network also enables flexible usage along with other Bluetooth equipped devices. AMEC comprehensive in-house design capabilities provide our clients with differentiated and versatile AIS solutions.

A newly launched product, AMEC MOB Dolphin, is a wireless electronic system designed to aid for crew safety. It may assist in alerting other crew members on the boat to provide immediately rescue action to ensure accidents never ends in tears. AMEC MOB Dolphin triggers the extra loud on board siren alarm to notice crew members when detects the wireless signal linkages is break. In the mean time, it automatically activates the AMEC AIS CAMINO-201 or other compatible MOB mode embedded products to display rescue information such as time, place, and direction. Users also can manually call for help while in medical emergency or in sudden distress by pressing the pendant button. On the other hand, the SRM can be automatically sent out to search for friend ship rescue by a single user while facing distress alone.
